The Summer Vibes Sweater is a slightly oversized raglan sweater worked top-down. It’s knit with 3 strands held together; 1 strand of Alpakka and 2 strands of Tynn Silk Mohair to achieve a super soft texture and feel.

First, the folded neckband is knit. Then, the neckline is shaped at the front using German Short Rows. Continue knitting the yoke, while at the same time making raglan increases until the project is divided between the body and sleeves. Both the body and sleeves are knit seamlessly. Feel free to try the sweater on along the way, so you can customize it to fit your body and end up with the perfect sleeve and body length for you.

This design involves intermediate techniques. However, video tutorials are included to illustrate the steps along the way. Therefore, even beginners can give this pattern a try! The pattern includes guidelines on colour changes; however, you can customize the colour pattern or, alternatively, knit the entire sweater in one colour only.

The Summer Vibes Sweater is designed to have approx. 6 cm [2.5 inches] of positive ease, meaning it is designed to be 6 cm [2.5 inches] larger in circumference than your bust measurement.

Available sizes: S ( M ) L

The sizes S ( M ) L are designed to fit approx. bust circumference of 80-88 (88-96) 96-104 cm [ 31-35 (35-38) 38-41 in ]

Before beginning your project, measure yourself to determine which size will fit you the best. For example, if you measure 90 cm [35½ inches] around your bust (or around the widest part on your upper body) you should knit a size M. A size M sweater has a bust circumference of 100 cm [39.5 inches], which in the given example would give you 10 cm [4 inches] of positive ease.

  • Bust circumference: 92 ( 100 ) 108 cm [ 36.25 ( 39.5 ) 41.75 in ]
  • Length: measured mid-back excluding folded neckband 52 ( 54 ) 56 cm [ 20.5 ( 21.25 ) 22 in ]

gauge 10 cm (4 in) x 10(4 in) cm, 11 s x 14 r in stockinette stitch on 8mm (US11) needles with 3 strands held together: 1 strand Alpakka & 2 Silk Mohair

  • yarn:
    • Alpakka by Sandnes Garn 50g/110m [130yds]: 225-250 (250-275) 275 – 300g
      • colours: 2320, 1032, 1042, 2337, 4023
    • Tynn Silk Mohair by Sandnes Garn 25g/212m [232yds] double stranded: 110-125 (125 – 140) 140-150g
      • colours: 1022 (used twice), 4323, 4310, 2727

1 skein of each colour (except colour 1022) should be enough to knit one stripe each in sizes S & M. However, it won’t be enough for size L if you’d like to keep the recommended colour changes. So, in terms of using the yarn up efficiently and minimizing costs, you may consider knitting the sweater in 3 colours instead. If so, use 2 skeins of each colour. Alternatively, you can use 6 colours.

  • knitting needles: circular needles 8mm (11US) with 80cm cable + 5mm(US8) with 40cm cable or double pointed needles 5mm (US8)

other accessories: wool needle + 5 markers (preferably 1 in a contrasting colour), a piece of contrasting yarn used for a cast-on, 2 interchangeable cables or pieces of yarn to put the sleeve stitches on hold.
